Hi all. Learned this morning that my 89 TT has a ChipTorque chip in it. After a bit of email pin pog with them it turns out they no long do any support for it. It was made in 98 and is set for 12 psi boost with cat back mufflers. So I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about said chip and if there is any flashers out there for it? As if I go and do anything more to the motor I would like to be able to change the flash on it rather then have to get an all new 2nd ecu or new unit.
Well at the moment it all works but I was just thinking down the road. I'm not even sure if that was the only things done to the car as she has side mount Trust IC's which look like a very early kind of the Z1 smic they sell in their 500 HP Twin Turbo Z Power Package and not been able to read the tags on the turbo's and injectors yet till I pull out the motor, so this is making me a bit hesitant in saying that they are all stock too. oh the joys of getting a old 2nd car
This is what owning an old 2nd car is all about. I personally love this sort of thing. When i got my Zed I have to search and ask and fiddle and test. Now i know a lot more about these cars. I also learnt about things like Hicas Defender and other stuff. Thats what these forums are about. May I suggest you continue to research for now as the chip is working fine. When you come to a point when you need to make a decision you will be in a much better position to do so with the knowledge gained. I love driving and working on my car which was not the case when i got it. But with a little experience and trial and error i am confident I can keep on enjoying my 3rd car for a while longer. MichaelZ Ps. See if the mob you contacted can you give any information they do have if they do not support the product anymore.
The mob from ChipTorque as helpful as they was couldn't find that much out the chip, I think it is a case of them not keeping any records details about this kind of chip after they stop selling them.. I'm used to old cars, everyone called me mad when they heard I get was Z32 TT, as all my other cars have been Holden's over the years, 4 Torana's (3x4rdr 1x2dr) and the current family bus is a VT which the wife drives. So I have learnt that manual and owner before is not always right about the car until you pull about the part yourself and look. lol
It's probably a pretty good chip. They dyno tune their chips usually. They did the chip on my last car and I thought they were OK.
Considering ............... ...........the stock ECU can be run at 14 psi boost, at face value the ChipTorque chip doesn't appear to be too exotic. As the point of concern is possible future mods, Syntax has provided the 'best solution' in the first response. It would be worth considering Nistune as your very first modification.
Chances are the ignition has been advanced over stock, but to be honest a lot of these "chips" developed in australia are rubbish. The few maps i've seen from them are nothing but a slightly raised rev limit, speed limiter removed and 2* advance over the whole timing map with a stock fuel map. I'd say on a budget a Mines ECU + SAFC/SITC combo would still work fairly well. Nowhere near a nistune or any other capable ECU but it would work. A lot of cars with JWT chips run SAFC's for corrections each car may need.
The old bearded guy from Chiptorque was on MCM for one of their projects. They flew him from the GC to sydney before haltech started sponsoring them. They aren't a mailorder chip mob so there is a good chance it's tuned to the car and any mods. It could be fairly old though as they have been doing it for a while.
pretty sure its like the UNICHIP I used to run back in 2000 on my original motor with mods . They are tuned on the dyno to suit your mods ... not the mail order "hope its right for my engine " chips. http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&r...w4GIBA&usg=AFQjCNEVqF5CytYJP163gbWPYKDeP_R7Mw ?????? .
Mines? I'd use a dyno-tuned Chip Torque EPROM over a mines EPROM every time. .. less you like cleaning soot off your rear bar. Every Z I've seen using a mines chip is blowing fuel straight out the back.
