the car needs to be safe to drive.
that doesnt mean its not allowed to run like a piece of shit.

get a dodgy coilpack that you know doesnt work, put it on no.1 cylinder.

even with only 5 the z will still run and have some power, but they will think its a dodgy z and say their shitbox commodore can beat it hands down.

take it on the chin, say 'yeeah, its been running like shit lately.

when you get the Z back, swap the good coilpack back in and you have your nice running Z back...

    Simples!

If you have a nistune, you should be able to set both the rev limit, and the speed limit.

I don't understand why there are so many suggestions that will cause him to fail his roadworthy.
A car has to be in a roadworthy state... they won't pass it with a misfire.

Plus, if they can't figure out its an unplugged coilpack, or AFM, i wouldn't be leaving my car with them.

Sounds like the best option - But will that make it run lean or rich?

Are there mechanics around that are like mobile mechanics that come to your house and the tests ?. If so that maybe your answer.

And you'll likely fail road worthiness.

    For what reason?
It's not as if your removing the AFM itself?

Do you have a better idea on limiting the power?

setting to a rev limiter is the best way .

    set it at 4200rpm .

if they realise it has a limit of 4200rpm then you know they were pushing it harder than they should ;) :p

Supe's... My mechanic road tests the vehicle at rego inspection, but neither he nor any of his staff have ever treated either of my vehicles with disrespect.

Theres no excuse for these dicks to be fanging out your car while its in their possession. And, there should be no reason to hold a vehicle overnight for a rego check.. looks like they're taking the piss outta you. fortunately its a once a year thing aye.

If you are getting treated this way you can report them to the Maritime Services / RTA..

I agree, stop being a pussy and report the pricks!

Where do you live? Small town or city? Just be careful none of em have cops for mates! or bikies! or....

Better not report em aye lol!

As Black Beast said, just set the rev limiter in Nistune to around 4000rpm. They shouldn't need to go over 4000rpm for a road test.

Drop the boost level to at low as what the controller will allow?

I know this sounds glib, however, I have never had this issue with my Rego Inspection in all the years I have owned a motor vehicle. I suspect your are just incredibly unlucky with your choice of Inspector. The only reason they need to drive your car is to test the Braking Inertia/efficiency with a Test Meter(and that does require driving above normal road speeds for a short distance). If you think that is excessive, you are going to LOVE an RTA "over the pits" inspection. LOL.

    Very good point

Surely there must be that option available?

very simple, very cheap --- Dash cam set to recording live.
View the footage on their return and slap them with a "please explain the excessive speed".

I have the cheapest option .
Just disconnect a vac line here and another line there. And no boost!!!
Car will perform as a NA , no hectic power to chuck skids .

    Perhaps horrible idle

Lowest boost is base pressure unless you have a constant vac on the actuators right? Like hooking to the brake booster.

    Unplug the detonation sensor cable...

It will make the Z run in safety boost!

It won't blow the motor. And their Falcadore will seem faaar more powerful, hehe. :p

But seriously, detonation sensor cable is the quick fix to this.

SpecialtyZ in the USA sell an in-dash map code selector, including valet mode which I guess would overcome your problem (ie. detuned version with rev limiter). You can choose the mode but average Joe is none the wiser (thought your car would perform better - yeah, but only when I'm driving). PITA when you have a great vehicle and it gets abused
