My car is in at Total Nissan in Cannington for the 50,000 Km service today (@ 45,xxx), and I asked how much the latest map update was. He told me he needed to make a phone call, and would advise me when he got the info. Thinking it through further, I figured that I had better get a few prices so that I would be forewarned when he called me back. This is what I found... Duncan Nissan $382.20 Mandurah Nissan $399 Rockingham Nissan $450 (but would match a written quote) Northside Nissan $450 Giant Nissan $380 - $400 (she wouldn't quote exactly) Magic Nissan $450 So, Marco eventually called me. Took him a while to get back to me. Must be having a busy day. He said "you should get change for $300". I asked if I can get it done in a few weeks time (as I hadn't budgeted for it just now) - thinking that he had maybe secured a one-off price linked to getting the service done. "Yep, sure". :br: Incidentally, we bought our Dualis there, but I didn't buy the 370Z there. So, when I get it done, it's Total Nissan I'm going to.
How often do they do the update ?, is it something that you would wait for the latest update as in, is an update due shortly ?
GPS, You could have put that in title. Who makes the actual GPS navigation that is in your 370z? I'd be a bit annoyed if it was a rebadged Garmin that everyone else is buying with lifetime maps for $300ish (no more to pay).
It's not a garmin or other simple GPS units. It controls your Air Con, Sound system and other car settings (auto headlight sensitivity etc).
If this was a technical article about 370Z fuel maps, then don't you think it may have been put in Z34 Technical?
Yep. I gave up on this long ago. Not only is it a pain to update the Navigation maps, but the performance of the GPS itself annoyed me. It always seemed to be lagging 50m behind. Also, since I have the '09 model, the LCD screen is the older lower-resolution model. All up, made very little sense to pursue the upgrade. I'd much rather GPS on my Phone, or my Nexus 7 (2012) Tablet, that also serves as my version of 'ECU Talk' with the DashCommand app. Old photo. Have since tucked all the cables behind/under panels so they're almost entirely invisible... but you get the idea. Cheers, Emile
The 09 model doesn't get updates apparently. I have a series 3, MY 11 (sold in Feb 2012), which has the bells and whistles, including the new Nav system (with DVD).
Fairly certain there was talk of a way to update the '09, but it wasn't as straight forward. This was a long time back, I just can't remember details. What do I remember was thinking 'oh man, eff that... way too much hassle, I'll just stick with Android GPS units' and never gave it a second thought. Cheers, Emile
OK, in that case, I thought you could download the map for your device from a legit online provider, if there was significant updates to make it worthwhile. http://mapchanges.navigation.com/index.php?app=apac
This a legitimate assumption, but apparently the disk(s) used are in Nissan's data format, and may include firmware updates to the Navigation / AV, Airconditioning or Comfort systems. Having said that though, I will look into your link.
The 370z is not listed as supported by them. Judging by other Nissan updates on that site, the 370z map engine is different, but even if it was the same, it would still be $199. They also distribute the maps on SD card, and the 370z doesn't have a SD card slot. USB, and DVD, but no SD. Thanks for the info though.
Too bad the 370z is not listed, but as you say, the 370z update is/could be quite a few more things additional to a GPS map. Maybe someone else can find an online update. But you have a quote for 300 bucks, hope it is a significant update. PS: those windscreen mounted GPS with free updates, I have one. There is a dead end street that has been there for more than 10 years. 3 free updates later, it still isn't listed. So that means I must be getting what I am paying for
This is how all major car companies screw people over, make everything all nice and pretty and so technically complicated, you have no choice but too bend over lube up and cop it. Has a boring old Navman which i update every 3 months, does me and only cosy me $165 on special from Dick Smiths.
