Hi guys, looking for pics of stereo installs in Z's. Looking particularly at front door component setups. Planing on installing mid-high end front 6.5 component's, 12 inch or pair twin subs in hatch, mid range head unit and amps to suit.

Willing to hear offers of advice regarding component selection, like my music loud but clear with bass to suit.... Metallica, hard metal, current dance music etc....

I'm running 6.5" splits in the front and a single 12" in the back and sounds pretty good for "guitar oriented" music.

I also have interest in this thread as I have not started my stereo install.
I am looking for ideas and layouts as well.

My advice is to not install two subs. You are much better off having a single sub and a slightly larger box, especially with our open boot. If possible you want a ported box with an adjustable port so you can tune the frequency. Bang for your buck a Rockford Fosgate 'Punch' series sub is great, and doesnt drone too much.

As far as your speakers go id just buy some decent deck powered components. No point having amplified speakers unless you are either really anal about your music or in sound comps. In saying that, there is nothing wrong with being anal about these things :p

Dynamat is your friend! Make sure you do inside the door cards and door itself if you plan on putting speakers there. It makes a hell of a difference to the quality of noise. The same applies to the boot, but to a lesser extent.

Finally; wiring. This gets over looked by so many people. I dont know why. Theres no point having a 2000w sub and amp combo if your wire can only handle 500w. I always reccomend using 0-2ga wire for power and grounds, 4-8ga for the amp to sub, and 12-18ga for deck to speakers. Quality of wire makes a big difference.

Sorry i dont have any pics btw.

you do not need dual subs. my mate had a pair of 12s installed in the boot and it took up the entire boot. I have a single 10" & amp from jaycar which is more than enough bass. he's over doof doof and selling the lot, if you must have duals, pm romvg30dett for a dual 12" alpine setup with box.

If you enjoy driving your car, then you probably want a good sound system to go with it.
I'd categorise a good sound system as one that is better than the standard factory fitment.
If your music is on an ipod or similar, the music is compressed, so you don't have the best quality music to start with anyway.
A decent head unit is mandatory.
The sound quality will ultimately depend on the speakers, you want the best you can afford, 6.5 components are an excellent choice.
As far as subs, a good quality 10" sub in a sealed box will deliver all the bass you would need.
Amps will provide a bit more power, but you don't require a lot of watts to get a good sound.
When installing your system, pay particular attention to the details when reassembling the interior, anything that is loose or not secured, will become an annoyance due to vibration.
If you are installing a sub, you will require an amp, make sure you can access the adjustments once it is installed.
As mentioned, use Dynamat, especially in the doors.

I'm running two 10" in an isobaric box speaker to speaker out of faze, requires half the dimensions of a single 10" but with the power of a 12".

Im no audiophile, but i decided i needed a bit of an upgrade a while ago. Fronts and rear are same as everyone else but i banged these up as a bit of time kill a month or two ago.
Must admit the assembled photos look a bit weird, they are angled more towards the cab then what it looks like. Put some of that sound 'fluff' inside, sealed the boxes. 1000w amp under pass seat, feeding these. Looks pretty beasty in real life i think!
Not anything fancy, but hey, i got given the subs for free so i aint complaining.
I had a big box sitting in there before, one of the premade ones. Annoyed the daylights out of me. Slid around and took all my space. Plus there is much more boom from these bad boys!

So went and looked at some stereo gear today and decided on a pair of Hertz EK 165 L.5 6.5 inch components and Rockford P2 sub, either 10" or 12". I was looking to spend 500+ on a set of front splits, but The Hertz for $299 where quite honestly one of the best sounding splits I've heard around now, definately kick arse compared to the top range pioneer and alpine gear, Focals gear was fantastic, and the Hertz Mielle 2 were absolutely the bomb, but for $1800 I couldn't justify the price difference unless you were an absolute audiophile.

This is how i mounted the 6" speakers in my 2+2. Not a huge amount of depth, but nice and close so you dont have to have them up so loud.

As pictured I too run boxes I made myself

6.5" component speakers front and rear
2x10" alpine type x subs all ran off 2 amps

However the system is about to go under reconstruction/revision
