Having recently(ish) moved to NSW, I was a bit surprised to get defected for an "aftermarket exhaust" at an RBT where they soundtested me (I came in under). I didn't realise an aftermarket exhaust was so criminal! Anyways - I would also recommend the stock muffler idea. I wanted to come down to Sydney to take up Nem's offer in fact but unfortunately work restrictions meant I'd have to stay in Newy. Eventually I was held at the mercy of the only exhaust shop who was willing to fabricate me a "stock exhaust" and pass me for $500....
You can get an idea of whether you are over or not by using apps on a smart phone to measure the decibels coming out of your exhaust. Will give you a better idea than just guessing. I have an app called Sound Meter on my Android.
Would like some help from people that have been through this . Tried to book in at Campbelltown approved inspection station and was told I needed a letter/referral from DECC called DECC/EPA and they haven't been notified or have the car plates in their system . Yet the RTA has sent a letter stating I have 21 days until rego gets suspended. On the police referral letter , It states that the vehicle will be reported to the DECC . anyone been through this in NSW? .
Update . Didn't realise defect and EPA were 2 seperate matters Defect is off :br: And just made the EPA test ..right on 90 db  With Restrictor plate and stainless steel wool on same exhaust . [TIS] :br:
