...so here it is, I'm cleaning out my rear number plate globes and lenses so they look pretty again and it was pretty dark in there so I had them on while I was putting them back together and the stupid metallic shield came away and as I was putting it back I shorted something out and now I have Headlights stuck on high beam, no Instrument Panel/Dash lights, no Tail lights when headlights are on but brake lights still work and no front parkers but indicators still work ???

I've checked both fuse boxes but can't see any blown fuses so now I'm thinking a relay somewhere but...what Relay would control sooo many different objects!!?

I think tomorrow might be Auto Electrician time so if any one knows a good one in SE Suburbs let me know!
    Thanks!

On the right hand tail light if you remove the inspection cover in the boot the is some sort of control box which in my car clips on the right hand end of the lamp assembly. It could be something to do with this.
I had issues with tail lamps & got them working by bridging the relevant terminals. Worth a look:)

That relay just controls the tail lights as far as I know.

    BigCol That's what she said...

Sean, No need for an electrician just yet. Double check the in-cabin fuses, especially the 'clear lens illumination' fuse. This is the usual culprit...

if its stuck on highbeams than its a fuse.

    Cool...

    thanks guys!

Col, where is that fuse box? I pulled the board up where the ECU lives and looked under the flap under the dash on the drivers side but cant see any other fuse box??
    Cheers!

Edit: ...oh amazing thing our Tech Section lol... look at that, found
behind the driver's side kick panel.
    Thanks again!!

Its in the drivers footwell. If I recall its the third fuse from the left (or right?) on the top row, but as Graeme says is the clear lens illumination fuse or words like that. If you blow that fuse, your lights go really strange.

PS Nothing to do with the black box, which is a sensor circuit to detect blown bulbs in the tail and stop lights. It doesn't include the number plate lights in the circuit, which is lucky for you, because shorting out a socket is a really good way to blow the black box sensor.

I know this an old thread. Sorry to rise it up from the dead. But wanted to thank the few that mentioned to look at the "clear Lum/lens" fuse.
I had just installed a brand new DVD player a few days ago. And heard a pop. Didn't think nothing of it till later that night. When I tried turning on my lights, I got nothing but high beams! And my dash interior lights were out, along with my fogs! Thought I checked every fuse in all the fuse box locations. And relays. About to freak out about it. And started to pull wire diagrams. But just today I just searched and found this topic! Out of all the topics. This wa the ONLY one that mentioned that particular fuse! Thanks guys! ;)

I've found it easier to check every fuse whenever there's an electrical gremlin, always my first point of call.

Funny thing is that was my initial thing to do. The way it blew, it was really hard to tell at first glance and gave me the illusion at that it wasn't blown. Wasn't until I saw this thread that I actually pulled it out and examined it closer that I saw it blown! So this time I replaced it with one of the glow fuses. So if it ever blows, it'll light up! ;) quicker diagnosing is say!

Here's the pic of it. A very small break.

That's a tiny break, got any photos of the glow fuses? I've been meaning to get my hands on them!

Sure my friend! Here's pics I just went out my car and took.
Here's my fuse box on my drivers side, which is rhd.

There's a 10, 15, 20 that I had replaced with the LED glow fuses. They seem to have a golden like board on top. I suppose it where the LED is. And when it blows you can't miss them! Lol

Here are shots of a standard red 15 next to the LED red 15 fuse.

They seem to be built better IMHO. Also more expensive. But it's worth it!
