Hi all, So, Cara's zed has been a PITA the last couple of weeks. Runs fine, nek minet, throws a CEL. Now I always thought that the ECU failsafe limp mode limited revs to 2.5k. Cara's runs rich as, but will rev right out. Checked/swapped PTU and eliminated S1->S2 adapters. Checked/cleaned afm and connectors. Checked ecu connection, opened ECU to inspect (nistune installed, stock tune), all looks ok. When the car does run fine, does not give any error codes. Still to check: CAS connection, ECU swap with mine. Would have done that previously but couldn't find my hard drive with tunes on it. Found it yesterday... Any insightful info? Ideas? Please and thankyou
still a bit of a noob to all this. swap your AFM - run caras in yours and see if anything happens and yours in hers. Check the CAS Swap ecu I don't think i remember about a 2500rpm rev limit, however it will run rich (limp mode)
You could be right. Now I think harder, unplugged/faulty afm limits to 2.5k rpm maybe... Obviously some kind of intermittant electrical gremlin. I hate those little bastards
Revs are limited with no signal from AFM. So that doesn't sound like your issue. Are you saying you haven't checked for codes? You know you can check without cable by counting light flashing/blinking on ECU? I would be doing this before guessing what it might be. http://forums.nicoclub.com/300zx-z32-ecu-diagnostic-t249406.html
When the car is running fine we get code 55. When the CEL is on we get no connection... Will give that a try with CEL ON and see what happens...
So CEL, Runs rich as, no connection to ecu randomly? I had this problem with my nistune, thats why i got rid of it ECU is cactus.
Did that ECU use a machine pin socket or a cheaper wiper style socket ? Somehow I dont think Nistune was your problem.
Had the same problem with a VH ecu which I fried. Would sometimes work ok, but when it cracked the shits it wouldn't connect to conzult.
Solved. Did some testing tonight. Left ecu connected but unbolted. Trial and error, removing ecu bracket, then top cover, then unscrewing top board, checking for CEL/ecutalk connectivity at each step. Found with the top board loose the fault disappeared. Reassemble, again checking connectivity. Found when the top board was fully screwed down the fault came back. So I made some slim washers from slices of silicone vacuum hose and spaced the board off its mounts. Fixed. Noticed some bent things on the top board when I pulled it apart last weekend so had an inkling there was an issue there. Top board screwed back down, made sure the top ecu cover wasn't touching it, everything back together, ecu back in its home, problem solvered in the knick of time. Toshi tune on sat
