Hi all, I'm in the process of relocating fuel lines, filters and other odds and sods including moving the battery to the boot. I've now been stumped with the wiring. Does anyone have a diagram for the wiring required eg to the starter, alternator etc. I would be grateful for any advice Thanks
Its not necessary so do the starter wiring if you dont want to. Its possible to just extend the positive from the bay back to the boot to make it easier.
I'm part way though a relocation as we speak. I'm simply rerouting the OEM powitive lead through to the driver's side fender, then extending it before running it underneath the carpet to the boot. There's no sense in replacing that cable because then you have to work out a way to attach the accessories power cable. I'm using 2 gauge wire to extend it. I picked up a double terminal for the negative and will be running a short earth straight to the boot and a long one back to the engine bay via the gearbox, like the OEM earth cable does. If you give it a week or two I'll have a full photoguide walk through on how to do it from scratch, if that interests you
Thanks WhiteNiight. Anti please pull out all stops am really keen to see how you have accomplished the task. Great work on your project. I keep reading your build thread. The car is magic.
Thanks dude. I'm struggling to find the time to work on it at the moment, but it'll be within a week or two.
Just relocated my battery on the weekend. Brand new sealed battery in a sealed box in the LHS of the boot. I fab'd up a tie down and tray to go within the box, all nicely secured to boot floor. Short earth cable down to the boot. Ran a new positive cable to the front through the trim / carpet on LHS of car to the firewall. (25mm cross sectional area, dunno what that is in american gauge system but this is rated to a huge amount of current and is very sturdy). On passenger side near ECU is a large grommet where factory wiring harness runs through so I used this. Spiral wrap as well to stop rubbing. In the engine bay I ran this up where the battery used to be using some P clamps to secure. I made a bracket and mounted an Isolator key on the firewall. Used a gas torch to solder on new terminal lugs and used the ISO key to join the new and old cables. Rerouted engine bay earth cable and joined to chassis. Starts well, charges well, all nice and neat, and I have an easy power kill switch for when I'm working on the car. Quick write up, hope it makes sense haha. Cheers, Steve
More earths the better. Ive seen you can get away with a bare minimum single point in the boot. I myself extended the earth from the bay back to the battery, extended it again to another point in the bay. Plus used two additional points in the rear of the car. Earths everywhere.
My plan was to run a short earth to the boot and then another to the firewall via the gearbox/block like the OEM one does. I've already got an aftermarket amp power cable that goes to the boot at the moment that I obviously won't be needing, so it won't be too hard
That's exactly what I did. Ran the new welding cable for the extended positive to the bay. Then used the existing amp power cable and changed it to an earth extension for the rear.
WhiteNight, I've trolled through all of your threads but have not found your battery relocation. Cheers Dean
2nd that, i was curious to find some good quality pics on a battery relocation but came up with nothing on search and nothing when i went through all threads started by whitenight
This is abut all I can find really of mine. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298415&highlight=battery I can take some more on Friday if anyone wants any specific pictures.
