    hey guys,
need to replace my clutch. Does anyone know how long this should take a mechanic, I thought it would take roughly 4 hrs so no more than $200? I have my own clutch and its just the clutch not fly wheel.
    What do you guys think?

    regards

Probably take them all day. Yea it can be done in 4 hours but there not going to rush it remember they get paid by the hour. Get him to give you a fixed price. But i would guess over double what your thinking.

I paid $1500 for Gavin Wood to replace mine with a 'heavy duty' item back in the day. It lasted 12 months.

    $1200 is reasonable IMO.

    Ask yourself this,
would you pull a gearbox, tailshaft and exhaust system...refit a clutch plate....refit the G/box, tailshaft and exhaust,
and then carry a limited warranty/guarantee on the work performed(and only charge $200)???
    I think not!!

Believe it or not that's exactly what I paid 5 years ago. The install was done by Joe when he was at Nisport. Was $50/hr and it took 4 hrs so $200. Even if you take the new mechanic rate of $90/hr thats still under $400. And it was done by the best 300zx mechanic in OZ. You guys are paying triple that n calling it ice cream! $1200 is what u pay for an engine swap!

If you could get it at that price again you wouldn't be asking on here now would you. Mine was $350 labour, but add in flywheel machining, new rear main seal, new gearbox oil it turned out $505 all up.

This about about spot on. Very few mechanics who are worth paying charge $50 p/h any more.

mate your in victoria call joe on 0408 337 283 he will do everything including replacing rear main seal and sump sealant as long as u provide parts for under $400. He is the best Z mechanic! I too procrastinated for 6 months no I am afraid to drive up hills in case the clutch fails completely!

$600 for a stage 3 6 puck clutch and chromoly flywheel from USA. and one weekend with a mate, lots of swearing, sweating and smoking a carton of smokes got mine done, including new rear main, and replacing snapped pivot ball.
