Could a 300 be made to handle close to or as well as 4wd turbos like Skyline/EVO etc

    Evo's

are trick fwd, and thats where the comparison ends for me. If people have to compair, the new nissan gtr would be in the same field along with audi Q and a few others. I think questions like the orignal one asked, is the product of way to much time on ones hands.

Half the threads on this forum are a product of too much time on ones hands, not to mention the replies....whats your point?

    see

the first sentence again, then think back to Bathurst and how the 4x4 gtr skyline destroyed all the locals way back then. In GT1, nissan gtr's have had the front diff removed along with the turbo engine, why did they do it, you work it out. The point is you cant compair a fwd evo road car to a our cars, or make them handle like a evo.

Not really. The Evo's are a constant 50/50 AWD split unlike the GTR's which are RWD until the computers decide they need some front wheel action. With the Evos it sends torque front and rear (and left and right at the rear, torsen diff in the front) as it is required away from the normal 50/50 or 25/25/25/25 if you want to be pedantic :p

But you're right, not really comparable.

The evo mentioned in this post was a 450 hp tricked out vehicle from a European tuning house. It did not beat the Lamborghini, but Clarkson was amazed the lambo couldn't pull away from him. Bang for your buck, it was awesome, but it is not a true representation of an evo's abilities, nor was there any mention of longevity (standard internal motor running a billion psi).

Ever driven a GTR R35? Thing is insane, never been in a better handling car I've ever been in hands down bar none.

No I know...I said something similar above somewhere in the ether, something along the lines of handling is subjective, and you can make a RWD car go around a corner just as fast as a 4WD/AWD car, and it's about how drive the corner, etc etc.

My post just then was just agreeing with you on the hands and time thingy...meh

True that + the turbo lag that went with the EVO...

but it was amazing at how it managed to put all that extra power to the ground and was able to keep up with the Lambo. Tighter turning, etc... just looked effortless. Engine longevity though, who knows...

However, it was concluded that the std EVO was the way to go due to less turbo lag but still very fast.

It seems that these AWD cars have now reached a stage of it doesn't get any better than this and induce cockyness. At the end of the day it comes down to how much you can stomach/trust the car taking a corner at a speed that you know if something goes wrong or a computer gets a SYNTAX ERROR = you are dead.

Just food for thought, I have pushed my little 940Kg KE Laser around corners at the same speed as the Z. The Z wants to get the ass out where the Laser clings on for dear life and have not been able to drift it to date. After 3yrs of daily driving have not found it's limits yet!! Too scared actually b/c if I loose it it will be a disaster. An EVO would be ridiculous.

What's peoples opinions of wrxs? Thinking of getting one now i'm on my fulls, want to step away from rwd a bit and try something new. Seems to be a massive price difference between them and evos though.

That's because Evo's are awesome and only the cool kids have them :p

I'm not a fan of the WRX's, and wouldn't consider one that wasn't a STI.

i have the best of both worlds . a RWD and a AWD

i have an Audi turbo quattro AWD , ( all the bells and whistles )
there is no way i would buy a wrx over an Audi , Audi all the way . , they do what a wrx does but way better, i hate comparing them because they are just not in the same class .. just my opinion .

i have not raced my audi ( would love to ) , the handdling is just great. i just didnt feel that with the wrx. the audi and the evo just look hot doing it what ever they do , ..

so my answer to your question is , NO , not a wrx ( they just dont look good doing it . ) my opinion ..

WRX's are slow and shit. Wrx STi is a big yes. Total diff beast compared to the pos WRX. It basicly has a better "everything" 6-speed gear box, engine, running gear, interior, brakes the list just goes on and and on.
