Came across theses in the MAC tools online catalogue: Catalogue >>HERE<< The 16" PYTHON GRIPPER - 1/2" seems as though it might do the job and make it a little more bearable. Massive 40cm handles and hose-gripping end would be a great investment to any tool kit. Also comes in a 5/16" (~8mm) gripping end also Does anyone have a comment on this, or have used something similar in the past?
Reminds me of my favorite tool. The good old Snake Claw: Your push the handle and 4 little claws come out. This thing is amazing, saved me MANY times. It can grab bolts from the most ridiculous of places that youv dropped. Or even do the last 1/4 turn itself and pull it out.
Yeah, I have one of those too. Good for dropped nuts and stuff in a tight engine bay, but not up for the task of ripping off an old hose, or re-fitting a new one. I have a magnet out of an old broken computer Hard Drive that is securely taped to a long handle flat-blade screwdriver. Best thing for getting a nut started such as on the firewall (BMC, Clutch master etc) and cheap too - neomydium magnets FTW
now that i like!!!! i got a thing from repco for xmas of similar nature good old magnet on a stick... https://cars2.ebay.com.au/MECHPRO-M...wItemQQitemZ140452887080QQViewItemTabZfinance didnt come as the knife and torch set, but the pick up torch was 20 bucks. can be used as a normal torch as well, but the aerial part extends to about 70cm long and the leds light it up well at the end, and they say it will life around 1.5kg, i lifted a full baked beans tin with it no proble so its pretty solid! i wonder if i can get that claw here havn't seen them, perhaps at a specialist tool shop... in regards to the O/P that hose puller looks like a must have especially for a Z! once again hopefully i can find a stockist here, i better ring around later today.
Do it right Dont be lazy, my motto is 'if in doubt pull the engine out' then there is no need to go crevas crawling in 20 years of baked on tar, oil, grease. Just teasing guys
Completely agree! I think I'd pull a engine out to do a plenum pull Then you might as well do the 100K, and a new clutch, and a rebuild
I've got a set of these but in blue point so not that expensive, but fantastic on the hard to reach spring clamps http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...230&group_ID=1506&store=australia&dir=catalog
the main z mechanic here is prettymuch like that,i was in one day and said hey for a plenum pull, egr removal and a belt change what kind of labour am i looking at. he goes "anything like that you are looking at an engine pull, 4 hours removal 6 hours to put it back in" he also said the all up price to do that was $3400 i laughed in his face and left.
I just use a crescent spanner of the appropriate size. Can sometimes be hard to get a good amount of leverage on them, but it sure makes removing hoses a hell of a lot easier.
if not overly rude/intrusive, how much did you pay and where did you purchase ... ??/ the "snap on" product at $163.00 is a bit rich ... !!!!
http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&...w=hose+clamp+pliers&_sacat=See-All-Categories $15+ Edit: Or, almost the same product for about $50: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Astr...Z400121555706QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools
Lol. OT: Not that it matters, but it's vader for 2 reasons: 1. Vader is dutch for father (and I'm half Dutch) 2. It's an anagram for Dave R PS: you're welcome
cos they are not sure that the interior light switches off when the door is closed ... !!! apologies for the kindergarten joke .. had heaps of "dutchy" friends as a kid and during my career ... top folks ...
