 even at her size, she's still too big to fit into those hard too reach spots too tighten up things and connect up the wiring.

it's sleeving you can buy from Jaycar, with tape or heat shrink holding the ends in place. you can get stuff that will slip over wiring side on and coil around it, or that needs to be threaded on. used it on my loom.

I used Techflex F6 that I bought on Ebay.
As Anti says there a many types of this product. I used the F6 which is a split self wrapping tubing so you can put it over all your existing wiring without removing all the connectors. Really helps tidy up the engine bay so you can make a feature of the wiring instead of all of that hideous split tubing that I have a deep loathing for

    Nice job Anti.

    Getting it fogether

Finally things are starting to happen. Engine is back together and running but there where a lot of hiccups along the way. Hear's what it look looked like with all it's guts hanging out.
Some photos above of post tidy up.

Car has a lot of history, 2nd previous owner reconned the turbos then ran with waste gates wide open - result, blown piston, then sold the car.
Previous owner replaced the engine with a supposedly low Km Jap import + the reconned turbos. She had the car running for four days, lost it on a courner 200m from home and put it into her neighbours brick wall.
I then bought it for a project and rebuilt the front end. I had just put the last bolt in and was all ready for a pits check, noticed some fluid under the car, a lovely milkshake of oil and water it was.
So have spent the last 6 weeks replacing head gaskets, machining heads, replacing all fuel lines, water lines, nice braided ones supplied by Ryzan thanks and recovering all the old brittle wiring split tube with Techflex F6 as well as all injector connectors replaced. Bloody hell I'm surprised this car even ran with the state the wiring was in, every connection was green with corrosion. Threw a new timing belt on also to be safe.

I've also been playing around with the interior, changing it all from blue tweed to black and grey micro suede. Not finished but pretty happy with the results so far.

The only logical answer to why you've gone to all this trouble for a relatively common car is that you're a sucker for punishment. If that's the case feel free to head over my way, my car has more than enough punishment to go around.

    Gauges

Decided to update the gauge pod. Pretty happy with the results. Sometimes I wish I could just leave things alone though, I'm meant to be putting the car back together not pulling it apart.

And before you ask where I got the gauge rings etc............... all hand made at by myself, must have been a quiet day at work.

    Setback

So things haven't gone so well with the head gasket replacement. Hard to believe but after a couple of hours running and only the first run giving it any boost it blew a head gasket again,
I have been going through the shock and denial stages for the last couple of weeks. I am now sitting with my feet up by the pool in Bali working on the climb back up.

Iv'e decided to give up on that engine and get one of known quality and history from a local forum member.

    New interior

So while I have been pondering the fate of this maybe jinxed vehicle I thought I may as well finish off the interior that was started quite some time ago.
Most of it is done now, just have finish do the headlining and do something about the front and rear seats.
I would of liked to buy the leather kit available it the for sale section but that money will have to go into the engine now.

bummer about the engine. at least you got a taste of driving it before it belw.

    new interior looks good!

was it originally a blue interior car as a few bits are the factory dark blue....?

it would be good to swap all the remaining blue bits over to black to finish of the look and have it perfect

    Interior

Yes it was originally all factory dark blue with a rat eaten grey drivers seat (see previous posts for photos).
Everything will be finished in black, maybe the headlining in the silver/grey micro suede Iv'e been using? It 's just a process of working through everything.
If any of the WA guys have a decent boot carpet available I would be interested.

    Grey Micro suede

I bought it off Ebay, it actually came from Korea. The link is below, if they don't have any listed just ask them to add a listing.
It's really looks good and I found it very easy to work with. If you get some I can give you a few more hints on how to best use it.

    Engine removal.

So here we go on the next phase of the drama.
It all went very smoothly. Just waiting for the new donk to put back in.

I decided to have a go at leaving the transmission in place and seperate it at the firewall. A bit fiddley but possible with a multitude of 14mm spanners, sockets, rachets and breaker bars.
