Built in 2005 with solid lifters, Argo rods, 4 x exhaust custom cams, oversized idler and tensioner bearings, lower valley studs instead of bolts, custom top feed fuel rails, custom extrude honed turbo's with ceramic bearings balanced to 110,000 rpm, extrude honed manifolds, custom under driven harmonic balancer, alloy and titanium bolts used, billet alloy alternator bracket, custom sump baffling, over sized valves, UAS valve springs, ported heads and more.

Deleting anything unnecessary in the engine bay, including the air con, 4 wheel steer and more.

Relocating fuse box involves cutting, lengthening and soldering 45 wires x 2.

They're hollow -lighter. Also no problems with VTC etc (gotta remember this was nearly 10 years ago do no BDE gears).

    Exhaust cams are solid ?
Intake cams are hollow for VVT?

Exhaust cam gears used are very light .

You're right -in any case they're used in this application because they're lighter

interesting idler setup are you running a solid tensioner aswell?

Yes the solid tensioner is to prevent belt flap by deleting the hydraulic tensioner, and uses an offset camber style adjuster the same as a GTR,which can be an issue with strong valve springs. It also allows room for oversized pulleys, which increases wrap on the crank sprocket, picking up another three teeth on the cam belt. Similar to a GTR and reduces the chance of jumping teeth when racing with big hp high and fast revving motor, including down shifting or missing gears and sudden jumps in revs.

The main reason for using exhaust cam gears is to replace the heavy troublesome inlet hydraulic adjustable cam gears, which fail over time, as the internal spring weakens. They also often don't cope with strong valve springs and they chatter. As mentioned this motor was built in 2005 before the stronger BDE gears were available as an option. Plus the inlet cams have a weak point at the front part and can snap when racing, again with the added load of strong valve springs and big hp fast and high revving engine. With the added stress of racing with much hotter temps and vibration compared to a road car.

We also shaved of quite a bit of weight off the inside of the exhaust cam gears.

I think that was meant to read 'exhaust cam gears'.

I don't think you could replace the intake cams with exhaust cams?

Wouldn't the specs be completely different? ie lift, duration, etc.

So yep they are the same. Wonder if you could run 4 exhaust cams and stock exhaust cam wheels and not worry about VCT.... Will see

From what i remember UAS did that on a TT auto that made 280+rwkw on stock turbos, four exhaust cams and adjustable camgears all round.

Yes you can ... just advance the inlet cams 1 tooth ( adv 7.2 degrees ) otherwise you will have crap low > mid range.

any pics of the solid tensioner ??? sounds like a good setup for cars running heavy valve springs

This motor has custom cams to suit solid lifters, with a fair amount of lift, dialled in with a degree wheel, when it was built and adjusted on dyno.
