My Wiring Specialties harness arrived yesterday, finally some goodies on my door step!

For those who haven't seen one before, here is a little photo of it in the box... it looks nice, actually.

Alright, more action. I had the bulk of my Z1 parts arrive, so I took then down to the workshop.

With the arrival of most of the gear, they are now moving to take the engine out, so off we go!

Here are some of the other bits and pieces:

Short shifter, mount, boots, speed sensor, pinion and pin/bushing
    [IMG]
Injector adaptors, PCV kit, EGR delete, reducers and roof trim and clips
    [IMG]
Tomei Duracon shift knob, gear boot and finisher
    [IMG]
    BDE engine mount kit
    [IMG]
    Z1 2.5" Side mount coolers
    [IMG]
    AMS 3" dump
    [IMG]
    Nismo trans mount
    [IMG]
    New TT oil pan
    [IMG]
    Intercooler 2.5" piping

    A little more to come!

Thanks for the recommendation @beaver , I just ordered one from Shaftmasters... just need the clutch now!

Dumps are good but you will probably have to do some clearancing around the steering shaft.

Yeah, not sure about the AMS gear, have read different reports. They looked nice in the flesh, but I will hold my opinion until they are on the car!

The only real issue is that they're designed for left hand drive zeds, so they are usually very close to the steering shaft on RHD zeds. Made a decent improvement on the dyno.

The problem, although minor, is that the ams drivers side dump contacts the steering coupler, the part that connects the steering shaft to the rack, a few swipes with a file over the coupler fixes it, or a sharp blow to the pipe in the coupler area. I changed the engine mounts at the same time I installed the ams dumps, those with worn engine mounts may find installation a little more difficult, possible remedy.... use a bigger hammer.

IB sounds like you are speaking from experience, thanks for the feedback. Was hoping the 3" all the way through from the turbos would make a fine difference, sounds like the dumps will do their part. I'll pass on the feedback to the mechanic regarding the steering coupler, beaver.

Replacing all engine and trans mounts at the same time, so that should be easy enough, especially with the engine out :). I bought the full, low profile BDE engine mount kit to give more clearance for this and and future mods.

The lower the engine sits, ie, low profile bde mounts, the more the coupler will interfere with the dumps harts, you'll overcome it, "problem" is possibly overstating the matter. New stock mounts raise the engine away from the coupler, just not quite enough though.

Ah, check. Hammer and file it is then :)

I actually bought the low profile mounts because they are supposed to increase clearance, especially for larger turbos (future mods).

    See excerpt from BDE site:

"Contrary to popular belief, the "Low Profile" design of the mounts does not affect engine height, instead the Low Profile design provides additional clearance for 3" to 4" air intakes found on larger turbos which are becoming more and more common on Z32s."

We will see how it plays out in real life this month I hope!

They lowered the mount with the adaptor plate so you can get bigger pipes on the turbos if you wanted to, but the engine height stays the same, thought id seen the bde mounts before, Its clear if you look at the hung engine with the stock pipe and mount, and bde's pic.

I have those dumps on my 300.
I put them on when I put 2860's on mine.
I dont have any issues with clearance on mine....
Only thing I had to do was slightly shave two corners down on the divider block for a perfect fit.

We cut the flange off my driver's dump and add about 15-20 mm of each pipe

I have a theory about why some owners experience, clearance/fowling with ams 3'' dumps, while others dont seem to have any issues, its to do with how their oriented. I remember putting them on before i fitted the engine below, which shows the d side dp, the dp that sometimes causes fowling of the coupler. I thinking there's enough slop in the holes of the dp to snib the nuts up to the exhaust housing of the turbo, then push the bottom of the dp all the way to the left. In the pic below, it looks like I've done the opposite of what I've just said should happen. 5-10mm is all that's needed and I reckon that's easily gettable.

When I trimmed the edges on the divider it allowed also for better alignment (more central in the holes) .
So i definitely agree with you on that.

Finally got around to polishing the other wheels, I am really looking forward to getting the car back soon!

For shits and gigs I bought a custom number plate, couldn't believe it was available... one of the benefits of being in SA I guess. I'll post it up when it arrives.

Sorry IB, im not sure what your saying. would you mind clarifying that.

We cut the turbo flange off the driver's dump pipe, welded 15-20 mm of stainless pipe (2 sizes) to the flange and then welded the rest of the dump to the stubs of pipe. Gave plenty of clearance for the steering.

Ok, that makes sense. So did you have to do anything to the outlet end ?

Didn't have to do anything but we replaced the flanges with vbands on both sides. That was just because I prefer vbands to flanges.
We also cut up the AMS front pipes to insert cats. The rest of the exhaust is custom.
