Hi all Just noticed this as I have gone to change ecu as my number 4 has dropped out Can I remove this and is it easy. Cheers Dazza
It just removes the stock 180km/h speed limiter. If you're not going to a track or anything removing it should be easy, iirc it just has power, ground and taps into the speed signal, make sure you leave the speed signal wire going to the ecu in good condition or it'll affect your power steering. If you're putting in a nistune or chip tune you shouldn't need the defencer any more
Unless nistune is used... On older cars you would usually intercept the speed signal wire with 5V Zener diode after speedo and before ECU. That blocks off anything above 5V after speedo... So it reads the accurate speed at the speedo and sends signal to ecu that you are at max speed of 180km/h when it reads 5V which then allow you to step on it... Zener diode cost 10c
