Guys I've just spent the last 12 hours or so diagnosing an issue with #2 and #3 cylinders not firing. This was a newly built engine and for good measure the customer supplied a brand new Wiring Specialties EFI loom.

Since this was not the first time I have fitted one of these products I will give them credit where its due. These are a very well designed and fit for use on ANY Z32. Unfortunately anytime a human is involved mistakes can happen. In most cases, the coil connector for #2 is taped to the fuel temperature lead and as such will not reach any other cylinder. Turns out in this harness, #3 was taped to the fuel temp sensor wire so i had them connected back to front. Just for information, a new Nissan EFI loom has a label with '2' on it designating #2 coil but WS do not do this.

Due to various other issues I had encountered I was looking down the fuel delivery road as the problem but when I stepped back and started from scratch I took all the coils and plugs out, laid them on the plenum and checked the firing order. The problem became apparent pretty quickly. Good thing wiring specialties use the same wiring colour code as the OEM so a quick comparison with the old one confirmed my suspicions. Cut the tape holding the coil wire, swapped them over and it runs as a new engine should.

I'm sure cases like this are rare but I would encourage anyone fitting one of these to check the colour of the wiring for #2 coil against the loom they remove from the car.

Well done finding it. Maybe send them an email to let them know. Just might not happen again if they jump on it.
    Cheers

Don't they offer a startup guarantee or something along those lines?

Another issue with the TT wiring specialties loom is my cylinder 5 and cylinder 6 injector connectors were around the wrong way.

They label the fancy style injector sub loom with all corresponding cylinder numbers.

It took me some time to work out the hesitation issue. I looked back at the install instructions and found out that the cylinder numbers on the sub injector harness were not correct and to follow the install manual by defining each connector by its wire color -

Just a little issue, but caused me some grief on a first impression.

I seem to remember something about that. Can't seem to find it in my
    emails at the moment.

Good info and yes definitely let them know.

Personally I always verify anything third party before fitting. ie test every connection with a multimeter.

Yes pita, but less of a pita if one of them is wrong. Will be testing mine before fitment.

And to think that one of our glorified members gave this Company and their products a number of rave reviews .... ??????

lol, faults happen, no matter how good the quality control. Hence why it's always a good idea to test anything that can be tested before installing.

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

    Absolutely!!!
Just to expand on this, i prefer to use a test light a sometimes a multimeter not used correctly can lie.
    Test lights rarely lie!!

yep, i agree .... but it delayed someone like Karl with massive Zed experience, some 12 hours to resolve the issue ... and then there was Jamersss and his problem ... once can be a coincidence but two issues has to caste some doubts on the product/quality control .. ??

Tektrader Z32 Hoe, service me baby

THIS can happen with an OEM loom. The cables are the same length and are easy to swap over by accident after a plenum pull

yep, tekkie, i have seen that done at our tech days (ancient history) but that is a different issue ... a connection error by the doer.

I agree if this is a regular occurrence it's not good.

Still the installer should have tested it, no disrespect to 90TTZ, but it really should have been tested first. Don't trust anything made by anyone these days lol.

There's lots of parts on a vg30dett, you'd be there for a pretty long time testing everything

Using an LED as a test light is safer.

Just a note about test lights. Those screwdriver type test lights can cause problems if checking some ECU outputs. A logic probe or an LED with a 680Ohm resistor in series is safer. I agree a test light gives a clearer diagnosis most of the time.

Got a reply back from WS. Apparently they are aware of the tape issue and are fixing it now. They did throw the low punch in though that if I followed the instructions and checked the wiring colour it would have matched. Not like this was the first time I had fitted one of these and I am going to read the instructions for the same product every time, yeah right!

Meh, Nissan don't include a fitting manual with theirs and it goes in like a glove, with #2 and #4 leads marked! Anyway, lesson learned.
