Nope, never heard of anyone in QLD being defected for it in a Zed. Hide the ballasts, adjust the lights properly and don't get the fUlLy HeKtiK blue 8000K HID's and you should be ok.

Yes, they were available on some of the 99/00 model zeds. Different headlight assembly though. Much better cut off than with the normal headlights.

Heard of it happening to "a friend of a friend". Don't worry about it.

Pretty sure it'd still be illegal unless you had a '99 model as you're still retrofitting? You're just putting in an entire headlight rather than the bulbs...

It's illegal either way as there is no headlight washers on Zeds. Have the same issues with imported evo's, they are supposed to pull the HID's out and put halogens in.

could always take them out before you come over, so it passes compliance then wack them back in?

Depends on the compliance shop. Personal import will probably be ok.

I still have the factory HID's in my Evo ;)

It's not just the lack of headlight washers... they also need to have actuators to self-adjust.

Never heard of anyone been pulled over for HID's other than when they have 8k, as someone said before.

These the ones you guys are talking about?

Yesterday I almost got blinded by a guy who had about 8K+++ HID's in his Headlights and fog lights! Talk about blinding light, swear they were not at all adjusted!

Sorry for the hijack, but how much would it cost to get a 100% legal headlight set made up for a 300zx? I.e incl. washers and actuators?

Friggen heaps. You would have to do a lot of custom work, rip something out of a new car and mount it up somehow.

Is there an official regulatory website that lists HIDs needing washers and such.

Look up ADR 13, any light source over 2000 lumens (xenons/halogen or led) needs to have washers. I think my 4300k 35W HID's are around 3000lumens. There's also a bit in there that says anything over 2000lumens needs to have auto levellers but i'm not sure how to figure out what cars that applies to.
