Last update for 2 weeks Well, just got home. Gotta make this quick since I am flying off to Indonesia tonight and have not yet started packing Had a blast today with lots of company. Aidan, Cinda, Eva, Chris, Shay, Adam, Chantelle & also Aidan's friend Joey! Really enjoyed chatting, eating and working on zeds... ahh this is the life! :zlove: It was also my first time breaking into a zed (Adam's/Enigma's zed) after he locked his keys inside at the local Supa IGA  It looked super dodgy but good fun! Still can't believe it took less than 30 seconds to break in Anyways some progress! Sump is bolted and gooed on, the radiator neck now has a bleed port (thanks Chris), log manifolds are tacked together and taking shape (thanks Chris) & plenum is back on but still trying to work out where a couple of hoses go (PCV we believe) So, I have looked through FAST and through the Q45 FSM and cannot find where these hoses should hook up to... can anyone help us out here?? (I'm looking at you Chrispy, Andy, James, Eric??) This is right where EGR should be which I'm just going to block off, but what is it, a vacuum line or a water line and what should I do with it? These 2 hoses I do not know where to hook up to (Aidan reckons they are PCV), I will be looking through the FSM again during my flight tonight :zlove: If anyone can help us out that would be muchly appreciated! This would be so much easier if I just bought a new motor with everything on it already rather than a half completed project with bits all taken off... New ally filler neck with bleeder (shiny!): The Z as it stands now See you all in 2 weeks!!
Great thread and extra great it's being done in a WA home garage with help from all over AUS too! Love it, no problem too big and solutions everywhere
If you are going to go welding cast ally you need to use 4043 rods not 5653. Different silicon content from memory.
First picture I'm not sure, I'll have to look at mine when I'm back from China. Second piccy, IACV and PCV. Not sure which is which. And will that filler neck fit under the bonnet? Mine stuck up REALLY high.
Thanks Chris. The FSM doesn't really show where these hoses go, I went through the LC and EM section a few times during my flight but still couldn't work it out And yes the filler neck should fit under the Walkinshaw bulge. Kinda need the filler neck with the bleed port there as it is the highest point where coolant flows through. FMIC/rad will sit much lower.
Thanks James, I appreciate it. I had no such luck looking at the FSM again... not sure if Aidan's figured it out yet either...
OKS. First one connects to the PCV valve which mounts to the top rad fill cap thing which it looks like you are still using. So this joins the two valve covers to the plenum after the throttle. The first big one on the left in the second picture goes to the intake pipe and vents from both cam covers. There is no PCV valve in this part. The one on the right is for the IACV. Both of these tubes have to be between the throttle and the AFM. Hope that helps! All
Thanks for looking that up Chris! I'm back in the country tomorrow so won't be long til this thing gets a first start!!
It's good to be back!!! No more bloody traffic jams Some new photos courtesy of Aidan as per his facebook... Front of motor - looks like Aidan found a way around that stupid bendy hose near the plenum without having to order an OEM hose (lol) Alternator bolted up nicely Nearly complete! Astra elec P/S pump mounted where battery used to sit
its his radiator... we ran out of room in the engine bay for one, so have converted a FMIC into a twin pass FMR( front mount radiator)
Yeah, sorry to disappoint but as said above it's a radiator Notice how the endtank is cut short and welded? There will be no FI on this engine... that will be Aidan's thing
