Hey guys well i may as well fill you in here is the progress so far.... stripped the car out to do engine bay wire tuck engine rebuild, subframes gas tank etc are out to underbody seal the car, so shes pretty stripped out at the moment...
:bow2: Only this makes me wonder ar most zeds this rusty? Is this to be a racer or perfectionists street car?
Ahhh the rust looks alot worse than it is, all surface apart from whats under the back just behind the bumper and thats pretty minor, rust kill is your friend haha, won't be any for a long time once i'm done with it, all the wheel arch stuff is just mud. Going to be a street car/ weekend twistys play toy/ occasional trackday i can be a bit of a perfectionist haha, doing all the engine bay etc now, but will probably repaint the rest of the car down the track a bit. Got axle stands but they are the ones repco have recalled, so figured i'd use bricks... i trust them alot more. and i chain it to the roof whenever i'm under it, so she aint going anywhere haha that brucks better be a typo, or i'll get my jandal out son.
Not to much to report, take off passenger door passenger seat dash, heater air con etc, main loom that runs down under guard and across front... all fuel and brake lines out.... take off all the exhaust hangers and hopefully getting the whole underbody sealed later today.... if anybody has idea of stuff i should do while i'm doing this feel free to throw me ideas, and the old you done good motivational posts always help lol pains me having my z in this many bits, thats pretty good motivation to put it back together.
Where the hell do you guys get the time to do these sort of rebuilds!! What you people do is amazing.:zlove: Oh "You have all done very well!!" HaHaHa
Ahh the time, well that comes from getting sick of the rat race, life flying by to fast and all that jazz, so i saved up a bit and i'm taking however long it takes to build the car away from employment to build this and then to build my 240z after that hopefully. If i was older it wouldn't have been so viable, but being 23 and single it is. The rebuilds like this don't actually take that long hours wise, whats shown in the pics i would guestimate at about 30 hours labour probably less.... i'm estimating probably about 2,000-3,000 labour hours to build the car to a point i'm happy with by the time i fibreglass all the audio enclosure do the full interior retrim etc etc etc.... I rebuilt my motorbike last year and that ended up taking 300 hours, only due to a time constraint of wanting it done for when i had the bike license to ride it lol... you could also have gone with "that'll do pig, that'll do" i'm having trouble coming up with a sub box design, i'm thinking i will put it on electronic actuators so it can go up or split open, so i have a spot to put the targas underneath. Today i spent about 4 hours on the car, got all the exhaust hanger brackets off and finsihed the prep of the underbody and now everything from the dirve shaft hanger back has had its first coat of underbody seal, so i'm pretty stoked, was getting sick of just pulling things apart i felt very unproductive, so to now look underneath and see it all really nicely sealed definetely made me feel a good sense of pride. I of course had a beer, figured i had earnt it after 4 hours on my back... getting a rough idea of how the ex g/f felt each night.
LOL I forgot about the pig one very apt. Have you seen sub enclosures that sit on the side at the back near the taillights; they leave room for the targas. You will have to do a search for them, somebody on the forum was making them I think.
yeah seen those, but not my cup of tea, i was thinking something more at rear blind height with at least 3 10-12 inch subs, ideally with the amps mounted on it to, i'm planning to fibreglass something up, the idea being it lifts up and theres still a bit of space under for my battery, my w/s squirter resovoir spare tyre and the targas.... just the layout of the subs is the tricky bit, angles to put them on etc, i can do any design really i just gottab e careful as the last time i had 2 12's i cranked it up at a meet with my old car and blew out 2 windows.... lol
the 2 ton and 3 ton, black base with a red stem with teeth on it, they have been collapsing, they have done a full recall here i's assume the same in aussie.
http://www.repco.co.nz/CA2571B70016FA5A/page/Our+Range-Product+Recall?OpenDocument&1=010-Our+Range~&2=130-Product+Recall~&3=~ Though it only appears on the NZ site, the same stands are sold here in Oz so I would imagine the recall would still be in effect here regardless..
geez I got a set of them loaned to me recently. Have not used them yet. And by the looks of it wont be using them.
Some fresh pics of car, and a random one of my motorbike mechanic mate who i popped by for a catch up with on the way back because hes a bloodey riot lol enjoy
bloody hell you're keen. it should be immaculate by the time you're finished with it, provided you remember how to put it back together
Your posting way to many photos per page. I have adsl 2 plus or what ever it is and it still doesnt open them all.
Hate to say it Stretch but I am on ADSL2 and I live in wop wop WA (we only got adsl2 in the last 2 years) and I have no issues opening the thread. Just remember even if you have ADSL2 it doesnt mean they are not choking you, we are getting a lot of cold calls from ISP's saying they can offer more data at cheaper rates but even though the plans are listed at adsl2 they cap the speeds at 1.5 Mbps down where as I am full speed up and down (well actually around 10 down and 1.5 up)
