i snapped a bolt on my left hand intake camshaft on the cap between the front and middle cylinders, if i put it back together with only 1 bolt holding it will it run bad? or will it be ok?
i am just wondering if that would cause it to run bad or not? i want to replace the bolt but it wont be an easy task
If you have the heads off, consider a drill press to start a hole, then follow up with an easy-out, or screw extractor. Kits of kincrome screw extractors are about 40 bucks for a set of 3 sizes. If heads are on the engine, be sure to drill the pilot hole square to the bolt hole, which can be difficult if the bolt has broken through shearing at a weird angle. Definitely DO NOT attempt to drive the car without all cam caps securely torqued down. High RPM and the pressures exerted on the valvetrain would lead to a nasty engine failure either catastrophically, or over a short period of time.
ive been seeing alot of this lately, alot of cam bolts have been overtightened in the past and stretch, then snap. remove the broken bolt and fit another bolt, check it for stretch too, they go thinner where threads meet the shank if they are stretched
ok im getting the thread kit today i did put it backtogether because i forgot about it, the only thing that reminded me is the car is running rough now, i havnt driven it, only started it but would this be a cause for it?
LOL, didn't take you long to forget:rofl: If it is the cause of it running rough, a thread kit won't fix it. There would be some serious damage occuring.:bash::bash:
Likely to have bent the other bolt and the cap if your lucky. Unlucky, well, damage to the Cam as a start.
