Nissan to enter v8 supercars

HI ALL

On the news the other night they stated Nissan was definately joining the V8 supercars.

Incidentally next night they also stated that Chrysler may be joining the V8 Supercars as well

Anyone know what model / type of nissan will actually run?

My son says that GTR's can have V8's as well - or he thinks.
I only know of V6 GTR's

Anyone know any more about it?

Cheers

I will back a smart car race team, top of the range Hayabusa conversion. Maybe 2 bolted together to make it a V8?

But seriously with all the rules put in to restrict the cars in the competition these days no matter what badge the car has on it, it will still be a V8 supercar. Not a Nissan super car or Holden supercar etc.

Bring back 1992 skyline GTR day's.

Lets face it. The Holden and Ford bages have only really been a way that the vast bogan pool of punters can relate to the cars which guarantees a large paying audience.
V8 supercars have little in common with the brand names they actually represent. In fact, apart from the primary shape, they only have a section of the floorpan which hangs over from the donor cars.
The newer variant of car has NOTHING in common with a manufacturer now apart from the actual sillhouette/outline of the car. Nothing more than a couple of body panels that are nothing more that rivetted in place and a strategically placed name badge, over a common spec tubeframe chassis and spec suspension and transmissions.
This approach makes the construction of the cars very simple and relatively cheap and should attract less highly funded outfits given they "should" be running virtually identical equipment.
Will also standardise a legion of suspension components enabling lesser funded teams to keep their machines running after crashes by bludging parts off sympathetic teams!!!!

This has been what NASCAR have been all about and very successfully for many years! Just give the bogans a booming V8 exhaust note, skinny tyres and marginal brakes to create interest and a big brandname they can relate to/support and the techincal part more or less becomes irrelevant!!!

How the powers that be propose to hobble the Jap multivalve V8's down to realistic and equal horsepower remains to be seen and I expect that THIS will be the focus of the Kelly effort.
Nissan do make a pushrod V8 but they are all 3 bearing main types and so would not be suitable.
Enter the VH and VK engines, lightweight alloy multivalve/cam rev-meisters should produce a squillion Hp at a million rpm so how its proposed to hobble them should be very interesting from a technical point of view!!!

Group A (sadly) Touring cars has had its day and it is too difficult to create parity between the technically diverse selection of cars. You just see a procession of faster blasters trot out and then a mad reactive scramble to hobble them back to field parity!! This was the case glaringly back when first Sierras hosed off the old Group A V8's and then the Skylines et-al. Look at the equivalent now with all the mega dollar Euro blasters and stuff all banging around. Awesome to watch but just a procession of Euro supercars followed by some lesser class hotted up taxis.

As interesting as Grp A are, Ill confidently (and sadly) predict they will never race again as a major force in Australia. Anywhere really.

Bring it all on I say!!!!

Well we know what the motor will look like now .
I can see one of these sitting in my engine bay, but I don't think my bank manager has quite the same foresight!

Click the vid half way down for a closer look at some polished metal and carbon fibre goodness. Betcha the VK56DE in next year's Patrol looks somewhat different!

Heh, I make a guest appearance in that video.

It's a cool engine, no doubt. If it wasn't for all the parity requirements, it'd almost certainly shame the Fords and Holdens.

It will be very intersting to see how they go. Nice carbon fibre trumpets.

I noticed they give some details but not all. Such as they list ACL bearings and for sure they would be ACL race series. They use the same valve springs that we use and same billet alloy dry sump manufacturer as the Slot Car, Dailey Engineering.

The interesting thing I heard today was that the power and torque curves are going to be modified to match that of the current engines. The big win for the Nissan V8 will be its use of the fuel as the head (multi-valve) and bore to stroke will make it rather efficent. , there will be heaps more fuel avalaible for cooling the engine, thus a benefit in traffic and cooling drag (ie. smaller radiator opening)
very cool times

I don't get this stuff. The Altima is a front-driven 6-cylinder sedan. It's not a V8, or a supercar. To say Nissan are "competing in the V8 supercars" is a bit rich, considering the car they're using doesn't even have the same basic layout as any car they sell here, they don't sell any V8s in this country, and it'll be so regulated that it will be effectively another Holden/Ford.
Gone are the days of AWD Skylines ripping apart the big sedans, or little Minis taking them in the corners. It's 3 near-identical cars with different badges.

And to continue my rant...what are they trying to achieve? Are they trying to bolster the Altima as a performance car? Or their hero car? What happened to the Z and GT-R, both of which are faster and better looking?

Edit: in other words...what tassuperkart said.
