So been a little busy doing body work and spraying. Turns out spraying isnt that hard The amount of hours spent just prepping is unreal. Sourced some 2k lights. Sold the high flowed manual turbo's I purchased, going the ls1 route. Going to try my hand at re-trimming the spare interior I have in black. Lightly tinting front and side indicators. Still needs more low, running on stock springs atm. Pics don't do the yellow justice. Quite pleased with my first proper attempt at respraying larger parts. Still got to cut back a bit of orange peel. Repaired infill panel. Purchased all new leather boots and centre console cover. Thanks MagicMike for the upload, my Iphone is a whore.

Just a heads up once the ls1 conversion is completed and mod plated this will be up for sale.

Completely stripped bay of everything including harness, ready to strip paint and learnt how to weld so will try my hand at stitching up some turbo manifolds and strengthen the engine bay. Got some ls1 conversion mounts from castlemaine rod shop and rear moroso sump. Will be ordering a brand new ls1 block from a company called engine master ($2000) and the gearbox adapter plate from loj in the states so I don't have to mod the tunnel too much. Harness will obviously be supplied by Wiring Specialties. Mild crow cam to start, with mafless tune and full 2 1/2 in exhaust and Crane Cams roller rockers. 300rwkw piss easy with boost. Found a really clean, straight set of 241 heads I'm having posted from cairns next week, mild port on runners and combustion chamber and valve job to reach approx the same base specs as the ls3 heads. Couldnt find any 243 heads anywhere but the states so ported 241 it is.

Decided to get a really good condition 2nd hand block from my mate instead of a brand new one from engine master. Block and ported heads arrived barely half hour ago, absolutely stoked. Motor is from a vx ss with 156,000 on the clock, been in the car a few times, was nice and torquey. Going to give it a really good clean and deglaze the bores today. Valves seat really well on the heads, were leak tested before purchase. Project is finally gaining some traction...only for me to lose traction

Wont a boosted 5.7 be well over the allowable limits for mod approval in QLD? Or is it more a case of throwing the LS in, get it engineered then accidentally drive under a turbo kit falling off the back of a truck?

Might actually be. Can still cam it and port the heads out. Decided to put fresh sleeves and have the block decked and cam tunnel machined. Being picked up by the machinist this friday. Test drove a 317 clubsport recently, would like similar performance from the ls1. Will not have a/c, has na rear end, na box, 2+0 so trying to keep weight down (400kg weight difference to begin with). Even without boost, 250-270rwkw is more than enough to keep one happy.

Have since stripped back the bay completely to bare metal, and resprayed it black. Car is making progress slowly but surely. Akebono front brake upgrade should be delivered this week.

Minor update- Placed an order with czp on tuesday for Akebono adaptor brackets and a few other things...here by mid afternoon friday. All I can say is Auspost needs to really up their game (over a week syd-bris). Cheers czp for the awesome brackets etc. Placed a order with Loj for their ls swap sump, oil filter relocation kit and gearbox adaptor plate/custom flywheel. So hopefully here in the next week or so and the engine will finally be in. Will have a nice gearbox courtesy of kr4usy very soon and then finally on to the wiring harness. Luckily I still have my good condition na exedy hd clutch floating around somewhere. It's easier to load all my stuff on to my wheel well profile, so you can find all pictures there.

Minor update- Stripped out interior again and dyed all the tweed black. Actually surprised at how well it came out, washing everything in hot soapy water in the bath helps a LOT, The build up of human filth was astounding. Picked up new valve cover gaskets, throttle body and intake manifold gaskets, injector o-rings, ARP flywheel bolts and handbrake drum assembly. This could actually be ready by Christmas. Only 3 major parts left- Harness, exhaust manifolds and tail shaft. Pics are on Wheelwell.

Minor update- Stripped down the top end to replace gaskets etc to find the heads full of water. Rung up the place I purchased it from and they are giving me a full refund and picking it up tomorrow. Bit of a stuff around, but glad they offered the refund without any drama. Another ls1 has already been sourced with compression test done and warranty and receipts for all work provided.

Cheers mate hopefully 3rd time lucky. Few minor setbacks with this build, like many others, but there is a silver lining with this other ls1 I purchased, have now upgraded to 300kw ls2. Torque is over 520nm

The dyed tweed looks surprisingly good, much better than expected.

Does it have the hard crusty painted cloth feel most dyes give? That would be the only thing that turns me off doing it.

No actually, that was what I was worried about to begin with as well. I washed every part in warm water and washing powder in the bath and after every light coat of the dye I ran a piece of sponge across the top of it to pick up any excess and prevent any hard parts forming on the surface. Trick is super super light coats and constant grazing with the sponge. It will smell of the stuff for at least 3 days so be prepared for your interior to be out that long unless you want the whole zed smelling like crap.

Not the clearest pics (phone obviously) but came out much better than I had anticipated. One side of my garage was open, so the lighting is all cock eyed.
