2006 XR8 drivetrain extraction

Hi guys
I have a customer keen to remove the running gear (eng, box, loom, ECU, FPCU? etc) from his XR8 so he can re power another car he has.

Anyone here got any experience with them? It will all be fairly self explanatory when I get there but I'm hoping some of you have a short cut or two or can point out all the electronics, where they hide & what we will need for the repower.

The guy wants to use the stock XR8 ECU so I intend to remove as much of the loom as required & hopefully we wont have to go fishing for parts later trying to make it run.

(This should be fun wrecking a perfectly good Ford )

God sounds like the hard way.

I'd just get a LS7 crate motor, tremec 6 speed, and PlugnPlay ECU. Come in cheaper than an XR8 resale....and more A/M parts.

LS7 $14KUSD
Tremec 6Sp $3500USD (including all mounting hardware to the LS7)
FAST ECU and Harness for LS7 $3000USD

About $25KAUD shipped and landed...better engine than the ford, all new

The Ford is worth less than $30K as a runner, the body parts, wheels etc should fetch more than ~ $10K plus I think the guy is pissed that the value fell so damn fast on it so he would rather wreck it.

I can see his thinking & I can see why people would think it's the wrong way to do things, at the end of the day they are his cars & I'm just here to help people do what they want with their toys

Yeah, well falcons and commodores depreciation has more in common with an anvil in a wooden boat than any kind of financial term.

But yeah, can't help with any tricky ford logic...

Sooo I spent Friday & today extracting the wiring & electronics from the poor Ford, she has been reduced to a very new but very sad rolling shell

I grin because it's a Ford

Not to bad to take apart, I learnt a few tricks & I am sure I could do it faster if I have to do it again. Fuel tank is a pain in the ass to get out
