Hi, Getting an annoying squeak from the front wipers every time they move. It's NOT the blades on the screen, seems to come from the mechanism somewhere. I've tried WD40 spray to no effect. Before I pull things to pieces can anyone suggest a cause. I've tried "Search" and the Tech section without success. Any ideas?

I was wondering if someone could add to my very vague questions at all...

I'm looking for a z31 for something to muck around on because i've been missing Zeds since I sold mine....

Based on the following description, is this something that could be fixed for someone with little experience, and if not, what kind of price range would I be looking at to get it done?

"Think it is now ?sucking? air ..maybe a manifold gasket ? not sure. Whatever, it will not idle properly. I am a mechanic myself, so its not something really hard to fix, but the engine will have to come out again. I say again as I have already done a lot to it with new bearings, rings, headgasket, solid lifters etc."

I realise that the problem could be any number of things and there is no telling what exactly it could be... so I'm asking for an approximate price range for the more likely scenarios.

Cheers,

G

Got a tiny pin-prick hole in my rad which is leaking ever so slowly, taken it out twice so i know that's exactly where it's coming from, I've seen it leaking.

Should i just throw in some radiator Stop Leak for a temporary fix?

I know it can cause issues with the heater core, but mine's been bypassed. This is a TT rad BTW.

Hey dudes, I'm sure this ones come up before.I'm runing stock turbo's That have probrobably done round about 150K so at best average spool up.The rest of the motor is in very good condition and checked all clamps and done boost leak test and all fine, very good compression 150 ave.The final Power figures are reasonable for the typical sensible mods about at a guess 300hprw. This is my 3rd Z32tt over the years,my second when I first got it went like a cut snake with the same mods as the current z the overal Hp being about 300hp as well. But the spool up was great you had to concentrate on not spining wheels when taking off.The tyres where old and hard admittingly but still 245s in dry.
When I bought the 2nd z I did take it to be dyno tuned before I got it home.
So I'm wondering if the tuner tweeked the ignition timing a little to get better spool up?
I must add Often when spooling up anywhere from 8psi to 15psi I hear a grunting sound, what appears from the drivers side and spool up and boost drops off.Be nice if it was loose clamps but have not long checked them.Does the right hand turbo have to much play in the bearing and grinds to a holt? anyway it doesn't happen all the time.So does people think ignition timing can be tweeked a little for a big difference in spool up? and Has anyone had a similar noise on boost ramp up? are my turbo's on the way out?

Hello forum members!

I currently looked through finding what might be wrong with my 300zx and I was referred to your forum. I searched your forum but might have missed some posts/didn't put in correct "keywords".

Miles: 93k
Transmission: Auto

Problem - The engine is making weird noise.
Things that have been done:
Put in Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer - The sound went away it seemed but it came back in moments.
Changed the oil - Same problem - Did not see any major metal shaving/large quantity
Changed the spark plugs - No change in the sound
Checked the Compression - Looks good

I have heard different things that could be wrong with the engine but no one is certain. Someone said it could be the timing belt that is making that noise or the exhaust.

I looked at the Tech manual for the car and most of the noise is coming around the right side of the engine mainly by I guess the Exhaust camshaft.

Here are two videos. One seems to have an annoying sound (wind blowing by sound) that Youtube formatted my video to (it is not the car).

Links:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT2E7lRzhcs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_xD8R3uv9E

Thanks for any help possible. I will try to answer any questions that come up! (I am not car savvy).

Has anyone here with the ASI 56mm radiator replaced the 'O' ring on the stopcock at the bottom of the radiator? Should I replace the rubber ring with copper or leather or something more durable? The stopcock is a wingnut set up so I guess you aren't meant to over tighten these things.

Mine was leaking slightly after a 20 minute drive into the city last night. Not much I could do about it at the time except guess it was the stopcock, as there is nothing else that could leak coolant from that area. Got home and raised the zed - sure enough 'O' ring weeping a bit. A bit of tighten and all seems good. But, yer, is there a better seal I can use?

PS - is this thing actually called a stopcock:eek:? There must be a better name for it:).

Took my zed to the local diff and mt specialist thismorning to try and track down and hopefully (eventually) fix my problem of excess driveline play. Now I've already had a 1 piece propshaft put in and replaced the gearbox and diff bushes. Mechanic has now told me that I have play in my rear cv joints :( and I've got too much backlash in my diff. The car's getting worse and worse to drive so I really need to get on top of all this.

So, first question is how long do the cv's usually last?

Second question, where would be the best place to source new (or refurbished) rear cv's?

Third question, non turbo's have the r200 diff (same as a Skyline) and I have heard that these viscous lsd's only last for 80thousand kays. Is there any truth in that?

hey guys, need to clear this up. been searching the forums to find some direction but still have some grey areas.

im looking at buying another zed, got my eye on one for a cheapish price, mind you it is a bit of a fixer upper.

took it for a drive last week, as the owner stated the clutch slips.. turns out a lot haha.

going from first to second with some revs, say changing up at 4500rpm then letting the clutch go results in a slipping feeling/sound then finally grabs again and you're off!

before i do make the plunge i would like to know what im getting into here.

ive never done this sort of thing before, im only young you could say :p but i have done a few things around cars before (head removals, engine reco's, simple bolt on parts ect ect)

looking at the cost vs time factor in doing it myself and getting a mechanic to do it for me.

As far as i understand, should also replace the following since the box will be coming out..
clutch/flywheel
throw out bearing
clutch pivot ball stud
rear main bearing-engine
front/rear gearbox seals

what am i missing here??

ideally id love it not to cost an arm and a leg (maybe around $1000) trying to save money for the big move to uni next year, but am working this year full time to get somthing behind me.

looking at getting somthing like this here seems to be an ok price. thoughts on quality?

how much roughly would the parts listed above cost?
how much would a mech charge me for installation?

would love to do it myself, learn a few things and get to say i fixed it myself on my car. but if its gonna take me ( and a few mates) more than a weekend to do i might have to give it a miss.

hope you guys can help me:)

Alright guys.. today when i was at work and went to work on my car in my lunch break.. i decided to turn the car on.. now.. the car basically turned on fine.. and idled fine. I went to rev it a bit and when it hit 2,500rpm it wouldnt go any further? and i had my foot flat on the pedal.. I would let go.. and rev it again and wouldnt go past 2,500rpm..

The only thing that has been done to it since anything.. was adding fuel to it as the fuel was stall and was idling and on verge of conking out.. So could my problem be that its sucking up the stall fuel at the moment and will operate fine if i change the fuel filter and put a full tank of new fuel? Or is there something else which is going wrong?

Hope you's can help.
