Hi,

For anyone who has an Australian delivered 300zx (mine is a 96 model but I don't think that it makes too much of a difference), here are a couple of tips when sourcing blank keys and car alarm remotes

The Nissan genuine part number for the 300zx blank key (KEY-BLANK.MASTR 080908) is KEY00-00095. I got a blank and took it down to my local key cutter to get a spare key made up.

If you have a Code Alarm system installed in your Aussie spec 300zx, check the FCC ID on the back and then search for it on this website

http://www.autoalarmpro.com/replacement_remotes

For example, using the FFC ID I found on the back I looked up the CodeAlarm part number which was CRCX-3.

I found an Aussie distributor called Zylux (zylux.com.au) in Melbourne who sells CodeAlarm parts. They sold me the complete remote for $95. I had a spare CodeAlarm circuit board so I also bought a plastic case (with extra replacement rubber buttons) for $30. Both remotes were already programmed so I did not need to "mate" them with my car alarm. It arrived in 2 days after I ordered over the phone.

I now have 2 genuine 300zx keys and 2 CodeAlarm remotes. Given that my car is a sleeper (it looks stock all over but has a twin turbo underneath), this is very important to me.

I hope this helps. Send me a message if you have any questions.
I still drove to work but it felt like i was driving with a walking stick as I'd always have to lift the stick each time to change gears:p. I was thinking about a really strong glue till i get it replaced as i need to go to city and paint balling tomorrow, got any ideas anyone?

I've had the plenum off for some time now and have been doing the water bypass and egr removal. But i've been looking at my injectors and fuel rail and have concerns about them. The plug pins have green stuff on them. And upon removing the injector caps there was a bit dirt built up inside the caps. The engine had previously been sitting out in a paddock for quite some time. But it does run, as i've had it running before.

But my question is. At this point in time would it be worth buying a new fuel rail and OEM sized injectors to freshen up the engine a bit? As well as the fuel temp sensor. And possibly the detonation sensor (can it be accessed without moving the center part of the plenum? looks tricky?)

I would like to smear the gbox with vas and insert it in a very dark place of the auto trans specialist, specialist..., who after stripping my gbox down and replacing the band after serious slippage in 2nd gear and telling me all the clutch plates & the rest of the box is in perfect nick, pocketing close to a grand for his efforts and bleeting about how effin good he is...blah blah
Now it slips in first and second gear but not every time, when its warmed up it sometimes, only sometimes goes just fine like when i am near his place:mad:
I am turning right at an intersection and after going half way across it slips and i am left at a standstill with trucks bearing down on me from both sides, it then decides to grip with a slam at 5k revs and I live to see another day, thank budda.
I would leave it with him to see for himself the problems if I thought he wasn't the Dr pattel of the auto industry!
thanks for listening, I feel a little better now...
If you are considering using a so called specialist in Noosaville pm me first and I will tell you which one to avoid like plague ;)

Well finished up my HID install today and after seeing many posts and requests on the matter, i thought i would list a basic tech quide to hopefully assist in the future.

My engine bay, A bit more cramped then some. ..

Parts and tools needed.
1X HID Low beam set (mine are slimline ballasts)
1X HID High beam set
Socket set, 12mm, 10mm,
Perhaps some Tape even.
screwdrivers and a shit load of patience :)

Step 1 (optional) Headlight Removal
Remove headlights,
This is not necisary to do as some of you may be able to mount the ballasts under neath the nose panel, I myself could not do so but found other reasons for removing the headlights such as cleaning the projector lens which was FILTHY!
(search in TECH there is a article i used)

Step 2, Removal of Stock air intake piping/annoying objects.
Once headlights are removed, if your fussy like me give the area a clean.
Now for those of you lucky enough to have removed, or had removed the stock air piping underneath the headlights, everything becomes easier for you.
However, for me, I had to remove the side indicators and attack the plastic with a screwdriver to seperate it and remove it. This gives you easier access later to reinstall the headlights or ever remove them again and frees up space for the next steps.

Step 3, Ballast Mounting Points.
Select mounting points for the ballasts.
Low beam, Slimlines i mounted on the bottom of the headlight.

High Beam's however i used the space created by removing the stock air piping, and bolted in the ballasts underneath the headlights, feeding the wires up behind them.

Step 4, Re-Installation of headlights.
After mounting the ballasts, cleaning the headlights. you can begin to reinstall them. be Careful not to trap wires (shortening them) and to keep your wires fed out the back neatly. Headlights should be sitting flush back in their hole.

Step 5, Connect and TEST
Connect and wire up everything.. And before bolting the headlights back in and resecuring TEST your bulbs and connections, cable tie them together if you wish to try and neaten the installation.
Now the wiring , depending which kit you get. IS SIMPLE.. note my pictures
Spade Connectors simply plug/slot into the original lighting connectors.

Simply repeat the process for the opposite side.

Step 6, Bolting back up!
Re-aim, secure and bolt in headlights, close the car up, and drive home or around without the fear of not seeing what is 15m infront of you because your headlights only light up 10m infront of you! . :

DONE

Thanks and i HOPE this has helped some people :D :zlove::zlove: Happy driving and lighting :)

Based on the following description, is this something that could be fixed for someone with little experience, and if not, what kind of price range would I be looking at to get it done?

"Think it is now ?sucking? air ..maybe a manifold gasket ? not sure. Whatever, it will not idle properly. I am a mechanic myself, so its not something really hard to fix, but the engine will have to come out again. I say again as I have already done a lot to it with new bearings, rings, headgasket, solid lifters etc."

I realise that the problem could be any number of things and there is no telling what exactly it could be... so I'm asking for an approximate price range for the more likely scenarios.

Cheers,
